I was passing through Memphis, Tenn. on my way to Texas.  I had just finished, in my head, the lyrics and partial melody to “Born To Play The Blues”.  Almost falling asleep at the wheel I decided to stop by and see a couple of friends of mine, Skip McQuinn and Will Johns.  Will Johns owned 315 Beal Street Studio in Memphis and Skip McQuinn ran the studio for him.  I met, through Will and Skip, Larry McCray.  Larry was in Memphis cutting his new album.  I sang to Skip and Larry the melody and the lyrics, without a guitar, to “Born To Play The Blues”.  They both enjoyed what I had written.  With some revising, “Born To Play The Blues” was included on Larry’s album and was chosen as the title song for the album.  Thanks to no sleep, Larry and Skip’s collaboration, and Will John’s support, we had one hell of a good time in Memphis and wrote one hell of a great song.  Thanks Larry McCray!
